Continuing Professional Development for Real Estate Professionals
All real estate professionals in Queensland should have received an email from the Office of Fair Trading today – the new CPD (Continuing Professional Development) requirements officially started on 6 June!
But don’t panic just yet—first, locate your real estate licence or registration certificate and check your Issue Date. Then, use this calculator to find out when you’re eligible to enrol in your CPD course. Don't do it early because it will not count!
General rule:
If your licence was issued between 1 January and 5 June, you’ll need to wait until next year to enrol.
If your licence was issued between 6 June and 31 December, you can enrol after your licence anniversary date this year.
Your CPD Year – What You Can Do, How Much It Costs, and How to Save!
Unless you're brand new to the industry (first-year licensees are exempt from CPD), everyone now has 12 months to complete two CPD units. You may complete:
Two Type 1 units, or One Type 1 unit + one Type 2 unit
If you currently only hold a registration certificate, you also have the option to complete two Full Licence upgrade units each year towards eventually obtaining your full real estate licence. Each upgrade unit costs $250 with PRET Australia, you can attend in person or via zoom.
CPD Course Options and Pricing in the Market
As of now, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has approved:
70 Type 1 units
53 Type 2 units
Prices vary widely—from $120 to $1,200 per unit.
There are both online self-paced and face-to-face options available.
Online courses usually include quizzes to verify learning.
In-person sessions require only physical attendance for 2–3 hours to receive a certificate.
