User Choice Funding

This traineeship is funded by the Queensland Government under the User Choice Program (eligibility criteria applies). Providing public funding for the delivery of accredited, entry level training to eligible Queensland apprentices and trainees.

Eligibility

To be eligible to receive a government contribution towards the cost of training, the trainee must:

  • have entered into a Training Contract for a qualification that is funded by the Department
  • be registered in the Department's registration system DELTA, and their visa allows them to work in Australia
  • have a contract commencement date or recommencement date on or after 1st July 2021, and the provider selected to deliver the training must hold SAS status for the nominated qualification

You must also have an employer willing to take you on as a trainee.

Rules I should be aware of

An apprentice or trainee can only receive one government contribution for a User Choice funded qualification at any single point in time. In circumstances where a student undertakes more than one apprenticeship or traineeship at the same time, the student will only receive the government contribution for the qualification nominated in the first Training Contract registered on DELTA, not the Training Contract with the earliest start date.

In addition, apprentices, trainees and school-based trainees can only receive a maximum of two government funding contributions under the current User Choice program.

Co-contribution Fees

Students are usually required to pay a co-contribution fee (please refer to our Course Price List). In some cases, PRET may provide either a partial or full exemption for a student in respect to the co-contribution fee. School-based trainees are not required to pay a co-contribution fee while they are still at school, but may be required if their training contract has been converted to full-time or part-time post school.

Fees are calculated at a regulated rate of $1.60 per nominal hour, or $0.64 per nominal hour (40%) if on a valid partial exemption. Non-funded trainees will be charged a fee for service cost.
